“Help me if you can, I’m feeling down.”
- John Lennon
1 NOTE
In 1956 a 16 year-old boy formed a skiffle garage band named the Quarrymen. Four years later, this band from Liverpool evolved into the Beatles. By 1963 the band had skyrocketed to global fame, success, and devotion. Beatle-mania became a world-wide phenomenon. Two years later, Lennon wrote the song ‘Help!’ The upbeat song masked his inner-turmoil. In an interview he said the song was a genuine cry for help. He was entirely overwhelmed, and hated, his sudden, massive fame. He missed his old, secure life.
In Psalm 50:15 God describes a mini-covenant. There are five major covenants in the Bible: (1) Noah: God’s contract to never flood the earth again, sealed with a rainbow; (2) Abraham: Make him a great nation; (3) Moses: The ten commands; (4) David: The royal throne and eternal dynasty; (5) Jeremiah: New Covenant promising relationship with God, fulfilled in Jesus. The mini-covenant, like the major covenants, is a promise between two parties. God’s role is to rescue us in the day of trouble. Our role in the mini-covenant is two-fold: we cry out to God for help and we say thank you after he rescues. We obtain the help we desperately need. God receives the glory that is due his holy name!
On December 8, 1980, John Lennon was murdered outside of the Dakota Apartments in Manhattan. He was 40 years old. His cries for help were real. In an unexpected plot twist, a book I wrote made it into the hands of an inmate in the Wende Correctional Facility in Alden, New York. I received a two-page hand-written letter from inmate numberL 81A3860. My book helped his faith in Jesus. The inmate’s name is Mark David Chapman, the man who killed John Lennon.
I wish John Lennon cried out to God and experienced His rescuing love!

Will you please pray that my friend calls me? I ask God to help me start a GIG (God Investigation Group) with him this month.
Until Next Tuesday,
