1 NOTE
One of the things I love most about children is that they so easily ask for help. On our drive back from Yosemite valley on Friday, Joy shared many amazing ministry stories from her summer mission. Her favorite moment was with a young fifth grader. She was small in stature, had super sweet big brown eyes, and so much fun. Joy said she was the staff’s favorite camper. Joy was her camp counselor. All of the girls slept in the same cabin. There group name was ‘Wildflowers.’ At the beginning of camp, Joy gave her a Bible. That night at worship she leaned over to Joy and asked her for help.
“Watermelon (this was Joy’s camp name), I am so excited that you gave me my first Bible. I have never owned a Bible before. Will you help me learn the Bible?” Joy said her heart melted. The little girl asked Joy many questions each day. Joy provided her a larger framework and taught her what to do each day. After two weeks she now has a strong foundation for how to hear God’s voice through the Word.
Joy said at the end of camp the girls called her by a new name. Because she helped the fifth grade girls in their faith, they called her their spiritual mom. With love in their hearts, they said she was their ‘Mama-melon.’
