- Winston Churchill
1 NOTE
This week’s 1-1-1 focuses on the most famous spiritual warfare text in the Bible: Ephesians 6:10-20. Paul begins the crown jewel of his epistles by teaching that believers are blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. Not we will be blessed. But we are blessed. Paul’s letter to the saints in Ephesus begins in the heavenly realm. But the book ends with war on earth.
Most of us are familiar with the call to put on the armor of God. My friend and mentor Darrell Johnson points out that there are five defensive pieces of armor. But only two offensive: Word and Spirit (Ephesians 6:17-18). Praying in the Spirit reminds us that it is God who is at work. Not us. The Spirit moves us to pray, helps us to pray, and works through our prayers to defeat principalities and powers. The powers are eternal, more-than-human spirits and structures. As we pray with the war-time mentality that Paul describes, we will experience fresh power to live out salvation by grace through faith. On a personal note, prayer has never been sweeter for Becky and me personally, and at our church’s weekly prayer meetings.
On a practical note, Becky and I are so encouraged by the responses to the rope holder invitation last week. Thank you for ‘Praying in the Spirit’ with us and for us. If you would like to join our prayer team, please email me and I will send you our detailed prayer requests for February 2026.

How are you praying against the principalities and powers?
