“Never forget that only dead fish swim with the stream.”
- Malcolm Muggeridge
1 NOTE
Malcolm Muggeridge (1903-1990) was a British journalist, author and talk show host. He was a man of wisdom, charm and eloquence. His sharp wit and commanding words landed him as England’s Jimmy Kimmel (or David Letterman if you are older). The man was known for his robust lifestyle and sensual pleasures.
His life was turned upside down when Mother Teresa appeared on his show. He was drawn to the nun from Macedonia who gave her life to serve the Calcutta lepers. He was so curious about her faith that he took a trip to visit her India. On his pilgrimage, his deep-seated worldly lusts were exposed. The Holy Spirit convicted him. He became a Christian. In his book Jesus Rediscovered, Muggeridge captures his own conversion and the unmatchable offer from Jesus of Nazareth. His words are delicious.
“I may, I suppose, regard myself as a relatively successful man. People occasionally stare at me in the streets, that’s fame. I can fairly easily earn enough to qualify for admission to the highest slopes of the IRS, that’s success. Furnished with enough money and a little fame, even the elderly, if they care to, may partake of trendy diversions, that’s pleasure. It might happen once in a while that something I said or wrote was sufficiently heeded for me to persuade myself that it represented a serious impact on our time – that’s fulfillment. Yet I say to you, and beg you to believe me, multiply these tiny triumphs by a million, add them all together, and they are nothing, nay, less than nothing, a positive impediment measured against one drop of that living water Jesus offers to the spiritually thirsty, irrespective of who or what they are!”
1 QUESTION
Success, fame, wealth, pleasure and worldly achievements are less than nothing compared to the Living Water Jesus gave to the woman at the well. Are you drinking, and continue to drink? Are you are satisfied in Jesus of Nazareth?
Until Next Tuesday,
